This significant event marked the conclusion of an initiative involving Italy, Greece, and Cyprus, with the main objective of raising awareness among physical education teachers, professionals, and young people throughout Europe about the prevention and fight against gender violence.

During the final conference of the TETRIS project, various speakers presented their insights, coordinated by Dr. Camillo Carlini and Prof. Stefano Armenia, the project coordinators. Notable participants included:

  • Prof. Maria Elena Castaldo (Researcher and Coordinator of the Law Degree Course at Link University)
  • Prof. Pietro Martella (Coordinator of the Youth and School Sector of FIGC Lazio)
  • Dr. Anna Maria De Rose (Head of the Third Sector of the CICAS Italy Confederation)
  • Avv. Claudia Abatecola
  • Dr. Francesco Di Giovambattista
  • Prof. Sergio Roticiani (President of AIAC Lazio)
  • Dr. Erika Maran (Coordinator of the Women’s Department LND)
  • Valentina De Risi (National Representative of Women’s Football AIAC)

  • Dr. Luca De Simoni (LND)
  • Tommaso Barnia (Basic Activities S.S. Lazio)
  • Dr. Juri Morico (President OPES APS)
  • Diana Bellucci (Representative AIC)

The event concluded with final considerations from Prof. Flaminia Musella, Professor of Statistics at Link University.

Thanks to the involvement of lawyers and experts, the issue of gender violence was thoroughly examined, including its legal definition. Violence against women is defined in Article 3 of the “Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence” as a “violation of human rights and a form of discrimination against women, encompassing all acts of gender-based violence that result in or are likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological, or economic harm or suffering, including threats of such acts, coercion, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life.”

During the conference, gender violence was specifically addressed within the sports context, although the issue extends to all areas of life. Experts shared their experiences and unanimously agreed that education and awareness on these topics are fundamental in preventing gender violence. Despite this, millions of girls, students, and athletes continue to be victims; the problem not only affects women but also individuals of diverse gender identities. Violence is not only physical: it can be verbal, psychological, economic, or manifest in other forms depending on the context.

In conclusion, Prof. Stefano Armenia emphasized the daily commitment of everyone to disseminate, whenever possible, the fundamental principles of equality between men and women, and more generally, between all individuals regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, and race. The real enemy lies in ignorance and the fear of diversity. This is the message that the TETRIS project hopes to perpetuate and spread through its work and results.
